Biofouling

Applications

Biofouling

Biofouling refers to the accumulation of microorganisms, plants, algae, or small animals on surfaces submerged in water. In industrial settings or marine environments, formation of algea, bacteria, and barnacles can occur on the hulls of ships. But also underwater structures, in pipes, and on various equipment. Various antifouling technologies, including the use of coatings or treatments like the Merus technology, are employed to mitigate the effects of these problems.

Advantages

When discussing the problems of biofouling, you can think of problems with algae, bacteria, biofilm, barnacles and marine growth deposits in waterlines and machines. Micro-organisms create a so-called biofilm in pipes and machines, which affects the efficiency of systems or may even clog entire systems. In many cases the water is treated chemically to avoid these problems. The Merus ring however provides an environment-friendly solution.

During the course of several test runs in the laboratory, Merus, using specifically developed equipment, was able to determine that biofouling can be reduced or even stopped entirely.

The rings bring back the initially experienced performance level in most cases and thus prolong the lifetime of the costly equipment in question. To sum up the Merus rings signify excellent performance levels coupled with a significant decrease in operational and maintenance costs.

FAQ's

Can I find Pronomar at exhibitions?

You absolutely can! Pronomar’s employees actively visit numerous exhibitions worldwide and is periodically also represented with its own stand. Please check out our events calendar or follow our social media accounts.

How can I request a Merus ring?

If you are interested in purchasing a Merus ring, please visit our store or get in contact with us and let us know for what it will be used, so that we can send you the most detailed offer.

How can the Merus ring be installed?

In private homes or for small installations no expertise is needed. That’s why we send you the ring and you can install it on your own. All you need is an Allen Hex Key and some insulating tape. You will get an installation manual with your Merus Ring or as PDF. For bigger installations where the place of installation has to be chosen carefully, we provide support by our technicians or partners world wide. We will decide what is suitable in cooperation with you.

How many rings do I need?

For small applications (e.g. private homes up to 6 apartments) usually one Merus Ring is sufficient. It is installed at the main water line in the basement. The smalles Merus Rings (3/4”, 1”, 1 1/4”) have a capacity of 12m³ per day – this equals the maximum water consumption of 20 persons. For industrial application we have special Merus Rings for higher flow rates. We have made successful installations with a flow volume of more than 10,000 m³ per hour.
