Working in an environment with hazardous chemicals and extreme heat involves major risks, including for the Gezamenlijke Brandweer. The Gezamenlijke Brandweer, responsible for firefighting and emergency services in the port and industrial area of the municipality of Rotterdam, is confronted daily with threats such as chemical vapors, gases, explosive mixtures and dangerous particles in the air. To be well protected in these circumstances, firefighters use personal protective equipment (PPE). Cleaning and drying PPE is an important aspect in guaranteeing the quality, safety and lifespan of this equipment.

The Gezamenlijke Brandweer uses Pronomar’s PX50 for cleaning and drying chemical protection suits: an advanced system that combines cleaning, disinfection and drying in one machine.

The PX50: cleaning, disinfection and drying in one

The PX50 is specially designed for cleaning and disinfecting the inside of gas and chemical protection suits, with an integrated drying function. The entire process takes about 4.5 hours, during which the suits are filled with air to treat all those hard-to-reach places. After the cleaning and disinfection program has been completed, the drying process begins. However, the Gezamenlijke Brandweer also has the upside down dryer (PX60), specially designed for gas and chemical protection suits and dry suits. This additional drying system enables the fire department to dry multiple suits simultaneously and speed up the entire process. This approach allows them to quickly and efficiently prepare the equipment for use and return it in a timely manner to customers such as companies and training centers. This optimized method of working ensures improved service and a higher availability of essential protective equipment.

Drying systems and drying rooms

In addition to the PX50 and the upside down dryer (PX60), Pronomar offers a wide range of (drying) systems suitable for drying and storing fire suits, chemical and survival suits, boots, gloves, fire helmets and (full face) masks. The drying systems work by means of a large amount of warm air that is circulated through a stainless steel frame and hangers. The hangers have nozzles through which the air flows into the clothing and reaches all areas, from the armpit to the tip of the gloves or shoes. Pronomar also offers additional solutions, such as drying cabinets, storage systems and boot cleaners, for a complete outfitting of the drying room.
